Let the Adventure Begin

I started this blog a long time ago, but never posted.  It was going to be about my adventures and experiences learning to be a Utah Mormon.  Here I am 4 years later in a much different desert deciding it’s time to talk and share my experiences.  I was reading a book that quoted Leviticus 25:3; which basically states, “for years you shall prune your vineyard”.  This reminded me that things don’t always happen immediately in life, sometimes you have to work for them for a long time.  It also reminded me that everything happens in it’s due time.  I believe it’s time for this blog adventure to begin,  So here goes...

I’m a wife, mother, daughter, best friend, teacher, Soldier, and Mormon.  That’s right, I’m a Mormon and a Soldier!  I know shocking, right?!  Guess what??? I don’t care!!!  I don’t care what people think of all those words that describe me.  I’m not a Utah Mormon.  Those are all words that perfectly depict who I am in a nutshell.  It’s taken me a long time to learn not to care what others think of those words.  Those aren’t who I am and they aren’t what I believe and they don’t define me.  This is me!

I have been deployed for 6 months now to the Arabian Gulf area.  In that time I have learned some valuable lessons.  Each week I will share them with you in the hopes that they will inspire and uplift you, make you feel not so alone on your journey, and help us both learn and develop.

This week’s lesson as told above is it takes time.  I’ve learned that it takes time to grow spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically.  And not just time, usually hard time.  That’s right, difficult beyond belief and measure.  Nothing happens over night if it’s worthwhile to obtain.  It took me 6 years to get a 4 year degree.  It took me 4 years and a mobilization to realize and understand that not all men in Utah are sexist and not all women in Utah hate female Soldiers.  It took me almost 11 years to become a Captain in the US Army.  Currently, this deployment is teaching me many wonderful, difficult lessons... Do not take your eyes off your goals because they are taking a long time, Press Forward, Push Harder, Become Stronger, it will be your time!
